Criticl Illness Cover For Smokers

This article is to highlight the cost benefit in critical illness cover for non-smokers as appose to smokers. The article explains how the difference in cost increases with age and that giving up smoking now will give significant advantage both to your help and your pocket.

After years of scientific research it has now been scientifically proven that smoking does have a detrimental effect to a persons life and a smoker is more susceptible to being diagnosed with a serious life threatening illness.

Smoking is the single biggest cause of cancer in the world. (Cancer research)

According to research carried out by the author, all insurance companies apply an increase to the amount of the monthly premiums of life insurance and critical illness cover policies if the applicant is a smoker. This research shows that the increase in premiums increases exponentially the older the applicant becomes. Therefore there is no great difference in the premiums of a 20 year old male smoker to that of a 20 year old male who is a non-smoker, where the smoker will pay a few pound more. Compare this with a 35 year old male smoker looking to take out a new 20 year critical illness cover policy who will pay some £20 per month more than the non smoker equivalent, this increase steps up a to £40 difference for a 40 year old.

So to save money on your life insurance and/or critical illness cover then if you can quit smoking 12 months prior to applying for life insurance and/or critical illness cover you should qualify for the lower non-smokers premiums. You will however, still need to declare to the insurance provider or insurance broker that you have been a smoker in the past but if you have been clear of smoking for 12 months then the non-smoker rates will apply. This is because non-smokers are less likely to make a claim on either life or critical illness as there is a lower risk to the individual from being diagnosed with a serious life threatening illness or suffering loss of life.

Look after your health, and the pounds will look after themselves!
